She comes in the middle of the night, as is the fairy way, and she takes what is left out for her, and leaves in its place, a treat.

If you give your clothes a good shake before hanging them on the line, they won't be as crunchy when they're dry. Apparently, shaking them helps to re-align the fibres, so they dry smoother. The constant movement in the drier does the same thing.
